SAND TRAY THERAPY

I offer sand tray therapy as a tool for clients to help them to access feelings and thoughts they may not have words for. It often helps to make sense of a situation or experience that an individual may be struggling to process just by talking. Clients may choose to complete several sessions with sand tray or as one off within a bank of talking therapy sessions.

Sand tray therapy is a powerful and effective form of therapy that can help you explore and process your feelings and emotions.

Sand tray therapy is a form of play therapy that uses a tray filled with sand and miniature figurines or objects to facilitate the exploration of feelings and emotions. During a sand tray therapy session, the client is guided to use the figurines to create a miniature world in the sand tray that represents their inner experience. The therapist serves as a guide and a facilitator to help them explore their unconscious mind, identify patterns and themes and work through unresolved emotional issues.

Often used with children, there is growing evidence that sand tray therapy can also be effective in working with adults improving overall wellbeing as well as reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and the impact of trauma.

Often referred to as a “container for the psyche”, the benefit of sand tray therapy for adults is that it allows for the expression of complex emotions and experiences in a nonverbal way and in a safe contained environment. This can be particularly helpful for people who have difficulty articulating their feelings or who have experienced trauma. By creating a physical representation of their inner world, clients can gain a greater sense of agency over their experiences and move towards healing and growth.

In addition, sand tray therapy is a form of experiential therapy that engages both the body and the mind. This can lead to deeper exploration and processing of experiences, which can lead to long-term healing and transformation.
